Etsegenet is from Ethiopia. She has 3 children. She needs a loan of $150 to buy additional sheep for fattening.
Etsegenet fattens sheep to help support her three children. She has good experience in caring for her existing flock. However, her options have been limited by the small number of animals she has been able to care for. The local economy has also been limited by demands beyond what she can supply, forcing her neighbors to face additional expense to find animals from farther away.
With a loan from World Vision Etsegenet will purchase additional sheep which she will raise and fatten to sell to her neighbors. She hopes a larger flock will help her meet her goals of improving the family diet, sending her children to school, and improve the quality of her children’s clothing. In time, a larger flock of sheep will eventually allow her to change to fattening cattle.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.
