Sumiati is from Indonesia. She needs a loan of $175 to purchase equipment for making ice cream.
Sumiati makes ice cream to sell for parties and weddings. A lack of capital has prevented her from being able to grow her business, but a loan from World Vision will enable her to buy more equipment for making ice cream. This will help her increase her production and meet the customers' demand.
She will also be able to hire two more people to work for her once she receives a loan. She loves her job because she knows that her business's growth will also benefit other members of her community.
Sumiati is the mother of three children, and her family depends upon her income. Her increased profits will help her meet the family's basic needs and pay her children's school fees so that they can continue to receive an education.
In areas where the poor live alongside the more affluent, businesses in the service sector can be very successful. Services include flower cultivation, tailoring/sewing, transportation, repair work, beauty salons and barber shops, and restaurants.
