Dedi is from Indonesia. He needs a loan of $125 to purchase new scissors and other equipment.
Dedi is a barber who works at a kiosk in the market. His wife caters from their home, as both of them must work hard to provide for the family's basic needs. Dedi will use a loan from World Vision to invest in new scissors and other equipment he will use in his hair cutting business.
Dedi is always looking for ways to meet his customers' demands, since he faces tough competition in the barbering industry. Better equipment will help him improve the services he offers to customers.
The additional income will allow Dedi to meet his family's basic needs and pay his children's school fees. In the future, he hopes to own a kiosk instead of renting one.
In areas where the poor live alongside the more affluent, businesses in the service sector can be very successful. Services include flower cultivation, tailoring/sewing, transportation, repair work, beauty salons and barber shops, and restaurants. Loans are needed to begin, expand, or sustain business with tools and supplies. Loans given to entrepreneurs in the service sector account for around 7% of our loans.
