Worke's Story

Farming alongside her husband, Worke Abesho is a hardworking mother of four, committed to improving their lives through the income generated from the sale of produce. She would like to improve and expand their farm. As she explains, "If I get a loan, I can buy fertilizer and selected seeds so that I can harvest good crops this season. I have to strengthen this small business so that I can have more customers and more income." A shortage of money has become a serious challenge to making the needed improvements.

With a loan from World Vision, Worke will be able to make the farming purchases necessary to make improvements that will increase their income, allow her to better provide her children, send them to school, and enable her to reinvest in the farm. In the long-term, she is planning on establishing a grain store in the community, and raising cattle for market.

Industry Info

The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.

Worke's Final Update May 09, 2013

Worke Abesho has successfully repaid her small business loan. She invested the $175 into her agricultural business by purchasing fertilizer and select seeds to increase the productivity of her crops.

Thanks to the loan she received, Worke was able to use the profits from her business to provide her family with food and healthcare, and to do home repairs.

In the future, Worke aspires to earn enough to start a new business, purchase livestock, and repair or expand their home.

Worke's four children continue to study in school. Because she was able to invest in her business, she will be able to invest in her family.
