Farming alongside her husband, Worke Abesho is a hardworking mother of four, committed to improving their lives through the income generated from the sale of produce. She would like to improve and expand their farm. As she explains, "If I get a loan, I can buy fertilizer and selected seeds so that I can harvest good crops this season. I have to strengthen this small business so that I can have more customers and more income." A shortage of money has become a serious challenge to making the needed improvements.
With a loan from World Vision, Worke will be able to make the farming purchases necessary to make improvements that will increase their income, allow her to better provide her children, send them to school, and enable her to reinvest in the farm. In the long-term, she is planning on establishing a grain store in the community, and raising cattle for market.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.
