Inés's Community

The community of Montana Amuzga is situated in a warm region of green, fertile valleys in the state of Guerroro. Residents of this community are descended from the Amuzgans, and most continue to uphold the ancient customs, speak the language, and wear the traditional dress of this ethnic group. The closest city is Ometepec, but inadequate public transportation limits access.

In Montana Amuzga, World Vision has helped to increase economic opportunities by providing small business loans and training beekeepers in production methods and business practices. We are also working to improve healthcare in the region: we have conducted HIV and AIDS prevention workshops, trained community members in how to care for those living with HIV and AIDS, and taught parents how to prevent respiratory infections in their children. In order to increase school attendance, we have conducted household visits informing parents about the importance of education.
