Carlos owns a small neighborhood grocery store. It is the only source of income he has to support his wife Rocio and ten year old daughter. Carlos used to own a hat shop but his family encouraged him to spend his time working on something that he loved and would be able to generate more money so he could support his family. He hopes that with this loan he will be able to someday own his own toy store.
With a loan from World Vision Carlos will purchase more merchandise to stock up his grocery store. He wants to be able to have a good selection of items for people to choose from and expand his store so he can sell more things and be able to support his family. His store is in a good location because people won't have to travel far to purchase items they need. Also, because of his business he will be able to create jobs for others in his community.
With the profits from his loan Carlos hopes to expand his business and take care of his family's basic needs.
Retail is a quick and scalable way to begin earning a profit. Many entrepreneurs begin with stalls at markets or even at home and need a loan to expand or increase their inventory. Others may be ready to open a small store. Goods purchased from loan funds range from clothing, grocery or sundry items to jewelry, candy, perfume or health and beauty supplies. Loans in the commerce sector account for around 33% of our loans.
