Vestine is a grocery store owner. She has been selling beans, sugar, flower, rice, and other groceries to make a living. Vestine is a hard workingwoman. However, she has been having financial difficulties and it is been hard to grow her business without money.
Vestine would like to obtain a loan to invest in her business. Please help Vestine grow her grocery store business. A loan will improve Vestine’s family’s quality of life.
Vestine would like to invest the funds from the loan in selling beans, sugar, flower, rice, and other groceries to resell. She would like to save some of the profits for the future and to invest in her grocery store. Vestine would like to grow her business in a way that she can create more jobs in her community.
Vestine has five children; she is married, and she lives in Huye, Rwanda, Africa.
Retail is a quick and scalable way to begin earning a profit. Many entrepreneurs begin with stalls at markets or even at home and need a loan to expand or increase their inventory. Others may be ready to open a small store. Goods purchased from loan funds range from clothing, grocery or sundry items to jewelry, candy, perfume or health and beauty supplies. Loans in the commerce sector account for around 33% of our loans.
The community of Karaba is located on a lowland plateau in southern Rwanda, where the climate is temperate. Most of the region’s approximately 39,000 residents depend on agriculture for income, but poor soil makes it difficult for crops to thrive. As a result, 70 percent of the population lives in poverty. Families eat mostly vegetables, but many struggle to find enough food for survival.
Most homes have wooden-pole walls and dirt floors and lack toilets and sinks. Diseases such as worms and diarrhea are constant threats, and more than 94 percent of families have been affected by malaria. Approximately 600 of Karaba’s children have lost at least one parent, and the community is home to more than 350 child-headed households.
In Karaba, World Vision is assisting community members through nutrition classes, business and handicraft training, classroom construction, HIV and AIDS support, and the provision of shelter for orphans and vulnerable children.
Thank you for supporting a small business loan for Vestine so she could expand her grocery store business. After receiving the loan from World Vision, she invested the funds by purchasing beans, rice, sugar, flour, and other groceries to sell in her store.
Vestine is pleased to report that she has been repaying her loan on time with her new profits. In addition to repaying her loan, Vestine is using her additional income to purchase food for her family and provide them with the healthcare they need. Through this opportunity, Vestine is able to cover her five children's educational expenses so they can continue to study in school and have hope for a brighter future.

While Vestine Mukamuzima initially invested in her business loan by purchasing to purchase beans, rice, sugar to resell. Since that initial investment, she struggled to repay her loan.
While we continued to work with Vestine to help her reestablish her business, I regret to report that Vestine has now defaulted on her loan.
Vestine prays that she will someday be able to restart she business so that she can better provide for her family. She thanks the donors who were part of this investment into her business and her life.

Despite the fact that World Vision boasts a repayment rate greater than 98%, there will always be some loans that do not get fully repaid. While World Vision does everything it can to ensure that this does not happen, it is an unfortunate reality that must be recognized when providing loans to less fortunate populations.
