Alberto Calao owns and manages a small piggery business. He has six children; his eldest child is 34 years old while his youngest is 19. He started his business in September 1960 and is still in love with raising pigs. He loves it because it gives his family an adequate income and he really enjoys growing pigs in the barn. "The business has helped a lot in covering our daily expenses. That is why I continue raising pigs. I hope that I will be given an opportunity to grow my livelihood," he said. “It's not easy to borrow money especially now that there are crisis," he added.
He still dreams that someday he will be able to raise more than a dozen pigs. Receiving a loan will help him buy additional piglets and hog supplements.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.

The community of Mountain View is located in a boot-shaped province on Negros Island in the Philippines. Home to Mt. Kanlaon, an active volcano, the area is rich with natural resources. With convenient access to a variety of markets, the community is emerging as a promising frontier for investors.
Economic activities revolve around agriculture, fishery, and forestry. Environmental degradation is a pressing concern. The region has been identified as one of the lowest income-earning areas in the country. Families struggle to acquire proper nutrients, and some do not have access to clean water. Malnutrition and disease are constant concerns. Families are hindered by poor road conditions, and many children drop out of school.
In Mountain View, World Vision has provided community members with key employment skills, including training in food processing and assistance in livestock rearing. We have also provided medical and housing assistance, supplemental food for malnourished children, fees and materials for children to attend school, and educational support for child laborers.

Alberto Calao needed to improve his piggery business to be able to provide for his family. Fortunately, with a loan he was able to purchase piglets and feed.
He is now growing and selling piglets to customers in his village. His dreams of owning a successful piggery are beginning to come true.
Alberto Callao has sold his 12 piglets to hog raisers in his village. He has also sold his additional four pigs. The profit he earned has been really helpful because he was able to pay the school tuition fee for his children and provide other needs for his family. Now, he is starting to raise a cow so that he can earn more income to support his family.
Alberto is thankful for those how have funded his loan and has repaid it in full.
