Todasia Minerva's Story

Todasia Minerva prepares fresh cheese, and with the income she earns she pays the expenses of their children. They are in primary and secondary school.

She is requesting a loan that she will invest in buying supplies to curdle milk, hoops, fabrics, and a cooler for power conservation. With this loan, she could have more products to offer to her customers.

Now she borrows the milk and pays for it after she sells the cheese. With the loan, she could buy the milk at better price. She dreams of someday owning a creamery with a large refrigerator where she could keep her products and buy a machine to make cream.

Todasia Minerva has 5 children all of whom go to the school. She is originally from Colima and come to Tijuana searching a better life.

Today she lives in a house that bought with credit. Payment of her house is her hope it with the income of her economic activity.

Todasia Minerva's Community

Along with the neighboring community of Cañón Del Sainz, Pedregal de Santa Julia is situated in what is referred to as the Frontera Norte region. This area is mountainous and hilly, and families have built their homes directly into the hillside, on the edge of a canyon. As a result, heavy rains often limit transportation and communication. Cold weather poses a serious health risk, compounded by the 45-minute journey to the nearest health center.

Many families run general goods stores or depend on the sale of food or used goods. While these activities once generated sufficient income, the economy is currently struggling. Families live in makeshift homes with floors of dirt or stone. The community is equipped with electricity and running water, but not all homes have access.

In Pedregal de Santa Julia, World Vision is working to improve community health by providing medical examinations and dental treatment; supporting programs that supply regular, nutritious meals to children; organizing community clean-up campaigns; and providing housing materials for the improvement of living spaces. We are also supporting education through scholarships, school supplies, and skills training.

Todasia Minerva's Mid Term Update April 15, 2010

Mrs. Todasia invested her loan in materials for making her cheeses. She has felt good about the loans because of her continued support.

Mrs. Todasia was only able to reinvest in her business a little before, but with the help of her loan, she is able to invest more-- especially as the prices of materials were cheaper.

She is thankful for the people around the world who believed in her.

Todasia Minerva's Final Update June 10, 2010

Todasia Minerva

Currently, Todasia sells cheeses (fresh, oaxaca, dry) in her community and beyond. She is very thankful to everyone who supported her! Unfortunately, she could not receive a new loan, because when it was time to sign a new contract, she had to travel outside of her town for a personal emergency. She is hoping that she will be able to receive a new loan in the future to continue to improve her business.
