Gudelia is a model of compact resourcefulness: out of her home she runs not only a basic-goods store, but also raises pigs for sale.
She seeks a loan to improve her store's selection, greater quantities and varieties of products. This also benefits her community, because her neighbors then don't have to go out of town to buy the products they need.
Gudelia is very happy and proud to work and support the household expenses, as well as contributing along with her husband in providing a better life for their children. She is 53 years old, married and a mother of 2 children, Enrique is 10 and Vanessa is 12. She says, "They are the light of my life."
Retail is a quick and scalable way to begin earning a profit. Many entrepreneurs entrepreneur begin with stalls at markets or even at home and need a loan to expand or increase their inventory. Others may be ready to open a small store. Goods purchased from loan funds range from clothing, grocery or sundry items to jewelry, candy, perfume or health and beauty supplies. Loans in the commerce sector account for around 33% of our loans.

We apologize for the delay in your promised mid-term report. When we reviewed the repayment status of your loan, it became apparent that your mid-term report had somehow slipped through the cracks. While World Vision has been giving microloans to the enterprising poor for over 20 years, Micro is a brand-new program. Our field staff has received updated training regarding the importance of prompt reporting back to donors, and you should be receiving an update soon.
Please let me assure you that what happened in this case is not typical of World Vision or Micro. We continue to be committed to providing you and all of our donors with consistent high-quality feedback. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at 1-888-511-6444 or by email at http://www.worldvisionmicro.org/pages/contact. Thank you for your continued support!
Mrs. Gudelia invested in the sale of groceries. She was happy because she was able to earn a good profit, and invested again in the sale of groceries. Unfortunately she chose to reinvest all of her profits and did not repay the loan.
We continue to work with Gudelia as she has asked to be considered for another loan in the future to again expand her store. Unfortunately, she cannot receive additional loans until she repays her first loan.
At this time, we are considering Gudelia's loan as defaulted.
Despite the fact that World Vision boasts a repayment rate greater than 98%, there will always be some loans that do not get fully repaid. While World Vision does everything it can to ensure that this does not happen, it is an unfortunate reality that must be recognized when providing loans to less fortunate populations.
Thank you for your understanding, and your support of World Vision Micro. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call our Customer Care line at 1-888-511-6444.
