Cristina is from Mexico. She needs a loan of $400 Upgrade from selling meat door-to-door, to a small basic grocery.
Cristina, a widow, began her business selling meat door to door. After some time, she soon realized the meat was too heavy to carry long distances, especially when the weather was very hot. Over time, however, customers grew and Cristina realized that her effort was giving good results. Her customers valued the personalized attention and quality of care that Cristina offers, and were thus loyal to her.
Over time, Cristina intends to open a basic grocery store where she can offer staples such as vegetables and legumes. She is about to move into a new home where she plans to put her store. Cristina hopes this will make for an improved business and family life.
Cristina lives in a community called Villa Hidalgo, located 10 minutes away from the municipal seat of Ometepec, Guerrero, Mexico.
Retail is a quick and scalable way to begin earning a profit. Many entrepreneurs begin with stalls at markets or even at home and need a loan to expand or increase their inventory. Others may be ready to open a small store. Goods purchased from loan funds range from clothing, grocery or sundry items to jewelry, candy, perfume or health and beauty supplies. The small community of Rio Santa Catarina, which derives its name from a local river, has a mountainous terrain and warm climate. Economic opportunities in this community are diverse as a result of its close proximity to the growing city of Ometepec.
In Rio Santa Catarina, World Vision is assisting farmers with production and marketing; educating families on disaster preparedness; and working to improve education through tutoring and teacher training. We are also providing healthcare services, nutritional training, and housing assistance.
Cristina Ortiz Ibarra used her loan to invest in more beef. This has increased the number of customers and sales allowing her to positively contribute to her community.
She has seen her profits rise allowing her to make timely payments and save for future expenses.
Cristina feels that her business has been successful because of the World Vision loan. Cristina wants to use her future profits to provide for her children and looks forward to sending them to universities.

As all her friends know that Cristina sells beef because she invested in the purchase of fresh beef to sell in her store. She earns enough from the profits that she is able to support her living expenses. Cristina is using part of the profits to reinvest back into her store, by purchasing additional beef to keep in stock. This she knows that her customers demands will be met.
Her dream is to stay in good health and to continue working. She wants to buy some furniture and to fix her house.
