Pomposa Macapanas raises pigs and sells fish to earn an income. She is doing this everyday to be able to save money for the reconstruction of her house and barn. She started having a piggery last 2007, and until now, she was able to sustain her business because it helped her family a lot in buying the food, clothing and other basic needs in their home.
Receiving a loan now from World Vision is very timely since she doesn't have money to further support her business. The loan will be used to buy additional piglets and feed.
She wished that someday she will be able to raise more pigs the earn much bigger income.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.

The community of Mountain View is located in a boot-shaped province on Negros Island in the Philippines. Home to Mt. Kanlaon, an active volcano, the area is rich with natural resources. With convenient access to a variety of markets, the community is emerging as a promising frontier for investors.
Economic activities revolve around agriculture, fishery, and forestry. Environmental degradation is a pressing concern. The region has been identified as one of the lowest income-earning areas in the country. Families struggle to acquire proper nutrients, and some do not have access to clean water. Malnutrition and disease are constant concerns. Families are hindered by poor road conditions, and many children drop out of school.
In Mountain View, World Vision has provided community members with key employment skills, including training in food processing and assistance in livestock rearing. We have also provided medical and housing assistance, supplemental food for malnourished children, fees and materials for children to attend school, and educational support for child laborers.

Pomposa Macapanas has a hog raising business. With her loan from World Vision she has been able to buy piglets and feed. She would like to thanks the donors for funding her loan. It was such a big help to her especially and has allowed her to invest into her business. Since receiving her loan, she has done well and soon she will sell her pigs.
We regret to inform you that Pomposa Macapanas withdrew from World Vision's microfinance program without repaying her loan. Unfortunately she experienced some difficulty in repaying the loan she used for purchasing piglets.
Despite the fact that World Vision boasts a repayment rate greater that 98%, there will always be some loans that do not get fully repaid. While World Vision does everything it can to ensure that this does not happen, it is an unfortunate reality that must be recognized when providing loans to less fortunate populations.
We hope you will continue to support Pomposa Macapanas by praying for their business and family. Once again, thank you for supporting World Vision Micro.
