Demetria's Story

Demetria has a small grocery store with a limited amount of items for sale. With a loan from World Vision, Demetria plans to purchase items such as eggs, rice, sugar, soap, and other inventory in order to expand her business. The additional income she will earn will help provide basic necessities for herself and her family.

Demetria is sixty five years old and a widow. She has nine children, two of whom are still in school. With this loan, Demetria will be able to better support their education. She will have a larger, well stocked store, and will be able to provide a better life for her family. In the future, Demetria plans to continue to invest in her business, and to buy a new stove.

Retail is a quick and scalable way to begin earning a profit. Many entrepreneurs begin with stalls at markets or even at home and need a loan to expand or increase their inventory. Residents of the community of Cuajinicuilapa are primarily a mix of native Mexicans and Africans, who originally arrived with the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes. The region’s close proximity to the coast enables residents to participate in a wide range of economic activities, including commerce, agriculture, and fishing.

In Cuajinicuilapa, World Vision is working to improve healthcare and has conducted HIV- and AIDS-awareness campaigns, formed support groups, provided testing, and trained community members to care for those who are affected by the disease. We have also emphasized the importance of education to parents and trained community leaders to provide tutoring to students, helping them improve academic performance.

Demetria

Mrs. Demetria Garcia Candela owns a grocery store. She decided to invest her loan by purchasing more products such as salt, sugar, rice, beans, beverages, water, soap, detergent, toilet paper, and many other staples. That way her store will stay well stocked.

She is very happy because her business has improved and grown, thanks to the loan. Her store is well stocked now and she has more customers, so her profits have increased considerably.

She has never fallen behind on a loan payment. She is a responsible, punctual, and an especially hardworking woman. She doesn't want to let down her group or World Vision.

Mrs. Demetria is very satisfied because her business has grown, thanks to the loan. Her biggest accomplishment is that she just finished building a kitchen in her home.

She wants to thank World Vision and the donors for their support and trust. Thanks to them, her family enjoys a better quality of life and she can pay for her children's studies as well. Also, her business is still standing thanks to the support from the loan.
