Evangeline's Story

Evangeline lives in the community of Bais, Negros Oriental. She raises and sells both cows and pigs. It is her dream to become a successful pig farmer. With these businesses, she works to pay for her family expenses and ensure that she takes good care of her family. Evangeline is blessed with two sons: Niel Joevan (4) and Jose Niel (2).

At this moment, she struggles to operate her farm properly due to low income and savings. She is not able to purchase enough pigs and cows to earn an adequate income that will allow her to expand her business. With her loan, she plans on purchasing more pigs and pig food.

When she becomes more financially stable and becomes successful with her pigs and cows, she hopes to explore other business opportunities to supplement and further increase her income. Her additional profit will go directly to her children’s education as well as their daily family meals and groceries.

Industry Info

The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.

Evangeline's Community

The community of Mountain View is located in a boot-shaped province on Negros Island in the Philippines. Home to Mt. Kanlaon, an active volcano, the area is rich with natural resources. With convenient access to a variety of markets, the community is emerging as a promising frontier for investors.

Economic activities revolve around agriculture, fishery, and forestry. Environmental degradation is a pressing concern. The region has been identified as one of the lowest income-earning areas in the country. Families struggle to acquire proper nutrients, and some do not have access to clean water. Malnutrition and disease are constant concerns. Families are hindered by poor road conditions, and many children drop out of school.

In Mountain View, World Vision has provided community members with key employment skills, including training in food processing and assistance in livestock rearing. We have also provided medical and housing assistance, supplemental food for malnourished children, fees and materials for children to attend school, and educational support for child laborers.

Evangeline's Mid Term Update May 17, 2011

Evangeline used the money she received from her loan to help meet the needs of cow and pig farm. She has added another piglet in her barn. She also prepared for the feed requirement by buying more sacks of hog feed.

Even with her struggles to get ahead, she has kept a good repayment record. Thank you for supporting Evangelne and World Vision MIcro!

Evangeline's Final Update July 26, 2011

Evangeline is very positive about the future, thanks to the loan she received from World Vision.

Evangeline sold her grown pigs. Those profits have provided her family's basic needs such as food for her children. Once she sell her cows, too, she expects to see her profits increase dramatically.

Evangeline's business success has allowed her to repay her loan in full. These loan funds are now available to help another worthy entrepreneur in her community. Thank you for supporting Evangeline and World Vision Micro!
