In areas where the poor live alongside the more affluent, businesses in the service sector can be very successful. Services include flower cultivation, tailoring/sewing, transportation, repair work, beauty salons and barber shops, and restaurants. Loans are needed to begin, expand, or sustain business with tools and supplies. Loans given to entrepreneurs in the service sector account for around 7% of our loans.

Mudasomwa is a densely populated rural community in Rwanda. Families in this area grow crops such as sorghum, sweet potatoes, beans, and bananas. Soil quality is poor, and many families keep livestock simply to have manure to use as fertilizer.
Some homes have roofs made of iron sheets or tiles, while others are simply thatched with grass. Widows and children often live in homes with damaged walls and leaking roofs. Many children in this community live alone or care for younger siblings and are unable to attend school. Insufficient diets, unclean water, and lack of sanitary toilets and sinks increase the prevalence of diseases, including malaria, worms, and malnutrition. Health facilities in the area do not have enough supplies or staff to adequately serve the community.
World Vision is working to improve life for community members in Mudasomwa by providing vocational training, school supplies, healthcare, health education, food assistance, seeds and fertilizers, livestock, and water tanks.

With the loan that Issa received from World Vision, he decided to diversify his business and purchased the fertilizer that is needed by many farmers in his area.
With the profits Issa has made selling fertilizer, he has been able to provide healthcare for his children and as well as some members of a neighboring family who were sick.
His prayer request that he will stay healthy so he can work toward a better life. He also dreams of buying a car in the future for use in his taxi business.
He believes that it is important to have integrity in using loans and paying back on time. He has been repaying his loan promptly.
Issa has been very successful selling fertilizer to the many farmers in his community. He is now able to employ someone from his community to help him.
Grateful for the loan, Issa is thankful for all of the donors who have contributed to funding it. He is meeting the needs of his family.
His loan has been paid in full. These funds are now available to help another worthy entrepreneur in Issa's community. Thank you for supporting Issa and World Vision Micro.
