Mariam is from Ethiopia. She has 7 children. She needs a loan of $150 to buy sheep.
Mariam is a farmer who raises sheep. With a loan from World Vision she plans to purchase more sheep to raise and sell for a good profit.
Mariam is confident that her business can succeed. When her business prospers, it will benefit others in her community as well. Mariam will soon have the money she needs to spend at other local vendors who sell the basic necessities her family needs - stimulating the local economy. Mariam is excited to use the profits from her loan to improve her family's lifestyle.
Mariam is the mother of 7 children. With her additional income, she will also send her children to a good school. In the future, she hopes to buy hybridized cows to supply the community with good quality beef.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.

While Mariam Bari initially invested in her business loan by purchasing to buy sheep, she has struggled to repay her loan. Although we continued to work with Mariam to help her reestablish her business, we regret to report that Mariam has now defaulted on her loan.
Mariam prays that she will someday be able to restart her business so that she can better provide for her family. Mariam would like to sincerely thank all the donors who partnered with her. Please pray for Mariam and her family during this difficult time.
Despite the fact that World Vision boasts a repayment rate greater than 98%, there will always be some loans that do not get fully repaid. While World Vision does everything it can to ensure that this does not happen, it is an unfortunate reality that must be recognized when providing loans to less fortunate populations.
