Susan's Story

Susan Odhiambo is a mother of two children, she lives with her family in Kisumu, a rural part of Kenya. Susan works very hard at her tailoring and embroidery business within her community, to help provide for her family. At this time Susan lacks the funds needed to purchase more textile materials to continue with her business successfully.

With a loan from World Vision, Susan will be able to purchase all the textile materials needed to operate her tailoring business with success. Because of the loan, Susan will be able to expand her business, attracting new customers and increasing her income. With the additional income, Susan will be able to provide for her family's daily needs and pay for children's education.

In areas where the poor live alongside the more affluent, businesses in the service sector can be very successful. Services include flower cultivation, tailoring/sewing, transportation, repair work, beauty salons and barber shops, and restaurants. Loans are needed to begin, expand, or sustain business with tools and supplies. Loans given to entrepreneurs in the service sector account for around 7% of our loans.

Susan's Mid Term Update October 29, 2012

Thank you for partnering with World Vision Micro to provide Susan Odhiambo with a small loan for her tailoring/sewing business. Susan used her loan of $250 to purchase textile materials for embroidery. She continues to make weekly payments of $10 on time.

With the profits she has earned from her growing business, Susan is able to pay school fees, expand the current business and start a new business. She has been selling corn, and she plans to buy a new sewing machine soon.

Susan's 3 children continue to study in school. Thanks to Susan’s hard work, she will be able to provide a brighter future for her 3 children.
