Salvador is from Philippines. He has 3 children. He needs a loan of $200 to purchase gasoline and cover maintenance fees.
Salvador works hard to support his family by transporting people on his motorized tricycle. Although he would like to expand his business, Salvador is faced with a lack of capital with which he can reinvest in his business. He needs this opportunity so that he can continue to make a profit out of driving his tricycle.
With a micro loan from World Vision, Salvador will be able to purchase gasoline for his vehicle and cover the costs of the maintenance to it, such as vulcanizing his tires (a process that will strengthen them). With the gas to power his vehicle and the repairs to keep it running smoothly, Salvador will be able to raw in a greater client base and spread the word about his reliable transportation. His goal is to have a stable business that will ensure he can continue to provide for his family.
The additional income he will generate will help Salvador provide food for his family. He will also used it for the renovation of their house to improve the family's living conditions. At 45 years old Salvador wants to be counted on by his loved ones for all of their needs. He has three children, two of them are still in high school, so their education is a top priority for him. He wants to ensure he has a good savings set up for them as well.
In areas where the poor live alongside the more affluent, businesses in the service sector can be very successful. Services include flower cultivation, tailoring/sewing, transportation, repair work, beauty salons and barber shops, and restaurants. Loans are needed to begin, expand, or sustain business with tools and supplies. Loans given to entrepreneurs in the service sector account for around 7% of our loans.
The community of Children’s Helper is located in the province of Cavite in the Philippine islands, to the southwest of Manila. Like most of the Philippines, the region experiences dry weather from December through June and a rainy season from July through November. Floods and typhoons are common threats.
Fishing is a major source of income, with catches including milkfish, crabs, tilapia, mussels, and oysters. Other income-generating activities include agriculture, livestock production, and industrial jobs. Often, families do not earn enough to meet basic needs and children drop out of school to find work. Many children are underweight. The community has access to a shallow well and several pumping stations that provide them with water for household needs.
In Children’s Helper, World Vision is assisting families with income generation through loans and retail projects such as making and selling soap. We are also providing medical checkups and healthcare for children.

Salvador has been repaying his loan on time with his new profits. He makes weekly payments of $10.
In addition to repaying his loan, Salvador is using additional income to purchase food for the family, purchase school supplies and expand the current business. Salvador's three children continue to study in school.
