Kuon is from Cambodia. She needs a loan of $350 to buy fertilizer.
Kuon Hun grows rice and raises chicken and ducks. Also, she and her daughters earn extra money by working for other members of the community. Kuon is a widow and has to work to support 6 children. When she is sick, she is unable to bring in enough money to support them. Her children are unable to go to school because of the family's financial situation.
With a loan, Kuon will be able to improve her farm and her family's living conditions. Her ability to save money will increase. When her children have grown up, she hopes to buy some rice fields so that they can also become farmers and to open a shop for her youngest daughter. She wants each of her children to have a business and to make a good living. Above all, her family will rise out of poverty.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.
