Thou is from Cambodia. She needs a loan of $150 to buy soybean seeds.
Thou Sin comes from a family of farmers in the Kompong Chhang province. She grows rice and soybeans. Her financial security is in doubt because her crop yield is in decline at the same time that the price of her crops is in decrease. This is very bad and means that she does not have enough money to support her business.
Thou wants to expand her business and produce a good crop yield. She is requesting a loan so that she can buy soybean seeds for the next growing season. She hopes to be able to send her two children to school regularly and to improve her family's quality of life. They will also be able to better contribute to their community.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.
