Chantha Khun lives with her husband and six children in the Kampung Chhnang Province of Cambodia. She grows rice and soybeans and her husband is a construction worker. Last season, the rice harvest was poor and the market price of rice dropped before the harvest. She is having difficulties finding the money for the next growing season.
Chantha is requesting a loan to buy fertilizers, pesticides and to irrigate her field. She will also buy a cow and eventually increase the amount of land that she cultivates. With the additional income, Chantha will be able to send her children to school and to make a positive contribution to society.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.
