Savan is from Cambodia. She has 1 child. She needs a loan of $350 to hire farmhands to help with the harvest.
Savan Pich has a small four hectare farm in the Banteay Meanchey Province. Her husband is a mine clearer. Recently, the market price of her crops went down. She needs to hire people to help her to harvest her fields but she is unable to afford their wages.
With the loan, she will be able to hire additional farmhands in time for the harvest. She will save the money to use for the harvest. She hopes to expand her farm by raising animals and growing a greater variety of crops. With this income, her family will have better living conditions and her children will be able to go to school. The success of Savan's farm will help to lift her community from poverty.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.
