Sokhom works to support her large family with two businesses: farming and weaving. She wants to expand her silk weaving business to make it sustainable and prosperous, but she lacks the capital to implement the improvements. By making this business more profitable, she could improve upon her family’s difficult living conditions.
A loan from World Vision would allow Sokhom to purchase the silk she needs to expand her business. She has seven children and cares for her elderly mother. Her children were forced to quit school, but the additional income she will earn as her business prospers will permit them to return to school. Sokhom's plan is to continue to invest in and grow her weaving business, and to explore other business opportunities in the future.
The Agriculture business sector covers all farming and livestock activities. Some entrepreneurs request loans to help in securing supplies and equipment. Others want to buy more animals to breed or purchase feed and medicines. The majority of our loan clients live in rural communities where agriculture is already understood as a business model. It is for this reason that approximately 50% of our loans are in the agricultural sector.
