Juchitan is a small community in the state of Guerrero, it means “place of flowers,” in Nahuatl. Agriculture is the main activity in this region; people grow mangos, corn, and sesame.
Maria is a single mothe who lives in Uchitan. Her son, Mauricio, is studying to obtain a bachelor's degree in education.
She has been selling typical Mexican snacks and dishes for almost three years. She decided to start selling these sorts of snacks because she realized it was a profitable activity. There are not many people in the same line of work in her community.
Luckily for Maria, her business is very successful; people in her community seem to be delighted with her snacks. She has also noticed that many people do not have enough time to prepare their own food or to cook for their families because of work.
With a loan from World Vision, Maria wants to buy chilis, tomatos, garlic, onion, maize, meat, table salt, and beans in order to make larger dishes and snacks.
Maria would eventually like to expand her business and have her own restaurant. A restaurant would help her to receive more clients and increase her sales.
Maria is a very happy woman. She enjoys doing her job and enjoys knowing that with her effort she will continue helping her son complete his university eduction.
