Osiris's Story

Osiris is a 21-year-old girl. She is married to Javier, who works the land, and together they have one child. Her family lives in Azoyu, a historical community located in the state of Guerrero where two colonial codices were found. These are antique documents created after the Spanish conquest containing the register of the most important events in native communities before the arrival of the Spanish to the Americas.

Four years ago Osiris began selling meat and "tamales" (a typical Mexican dish made of maize flour, usually stuffed with chili sauce, meat or cheese and wrapped in banana leaves). She chose this line of work because she knew it was a profitable activity and because she wanted to help her husband with the family expenses and provide their son with a better life. Osiris gladly explained that her business is doing well, not only because of her effort but because of her husband's support.

Osiris wants to improve and expand her business by investing in it but she currently cannot afford to do so. A loan from World Vision will enable her to buy more ingredients to bake more "tamales", including chili, tomatoes, lard cooking oil, maize, meat and banana leaves. This will generate more income for the family and provide for their basic needs. Osiris' main focus is on her son and she wants to give him the best opportunities and invest in his future studies. She also wants to save some money to open her own establishment and start a butcher's shop someday in the future.
