Breaking The Poverty Cycle

There is a cycle of poverty that many people cannot escape. With limited or no resources, such as financial capital or education, families experience disadvantages as a result of their poverty. Children leave school to help with domestic chores. Lack of training leads to lack of employment opportunities. Low income leads to hunger which leads to poor health. Entrepreneurs don’t have enough capital or access to credit to begin or grow their businesses that could provide more than a meager subsistence living. The cycle continues until an intervention of worthwhile means can help people climb out of destitution, and ensure children’s health and education.

This is where World Vision Micro comes in.

A loan provides the necessary means for an entrepreneur to start or expand their business. The business begins to flourish. Self-confidence builds. Profits enable the entrepreneur to pay for their children’s school fees, provide better, more nutritious food, improve their living conditions, and continue to reinvest in their business. Pride propels them into wanting to improve and strengthen their community. The entrepreneur is no longer at the bottom of the social pyramid but a self-supporting, contributing member of the community.

Where the lack of something contributes to the downfall into poverty, the access to it creates a positive, forward moving impact on both the individual and the community. With World Vision’s efforts in providing education, healthcare, clean water, and nutritious food, Micro strengthens those efforts by affording people the opportunity to realize their dreams.
